Upcycled Haunted Dollhouse: A DIY Halloween Craft
Spooky Season is just around the corner (for some, it has already begun), and what better way to celebrate than with a DIY craft project? This year, let's breathe new life into an old dollhouse by transforming it into a spooky, haunted house. It's a fun project for all ages, and it's a fantastic way to upcycle and reuse materials you may already have at home.
Materials You'll Need:
An old dollhouse (any size will do) I got mine from Goodwill for $7
Acrylic paints in black, gray, and other Halloween colors and spray paint
Paintbrushes
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Miniature Halloween decorations (skeletons, spiders, cobwebs, etc.)
Battery-powered LED lights (optional)
Instructions:
Prep Your Dollhouse: Start by cleaning your dollhouse and removing any wallpaper or furniture. If the dollhouse is in good condition, you can leave it as is. I sprayed mine down with some multi-purpose as well just to get any dust and fingerprints off of it. I then sprayed it with black spray paint all over.
Create Spooky Details: Hit the shops (Target/Dollar Store) for mini decorations like skeletons, spiders, tombstones, bats, and gnarled trees. Paint them in Halloween colors and glue them to the dollhouse or its base.
Decorate the Interior: This is where your creativity can really shine! Add miniature Halloween decorations throughout the dollhouse. You can find miniature skeletons, spiders, cobwebs, and other spooky items at craft stores, thrifts stores, $1 stores, or online. Consider adding battery-powered LED lights for an extra eerie glow!
Add Natural Elements: For a more realistic and weathered look, add some moss, twigs, and other natural elements to the base of the dollhouse. This will help create a sense of an old, abandoned house. I used a sponge to stipple some gray paint all over to give it a weathered look.
Get Creative: Don't be afraid to experiment and add your own unique touches. You can create a creepy graveyard in the yard, add spooky portraits to the walls, or even add creepy mini-curtains.
Pick a theme: Do you want spooky old ghost house? Arachnophobia house? Or maybe a slasher/thriller house with fake blood and action figures painted like Freddy Krueger. The possibilities are endless!
Tips and Tricks:
Get friends or family involved in the project. It's a fun activity for kids and adults alike so you can even throw a decorating party and provide all of the supplies.
Use your imagination to create a truly unique and spooky haunted house.
Take photos of your finished project and share them on social media (maybe tag me so I can see it!)
This doesn't just have to be for Halloween, these would make an adorable snowy Christmas house too!
Upcycling a dollhouse into a haunted house is a fun and creative way to celebrate Halloween. It's a great project for all ages, and it's a fantastic way to reuse and repurpose materials. So gather your supplies, get creative, and have a spooktacular time!
